The IUGS 60th anniversary event
The IUGS 60th anniversary event will be celebrated in the Basque Coast UNESCO Global Geopark on October 25th – 28th. This great event will announce the First 100 IUGS Geological Heritage Sites and the 10 new Heritage Stones and will bring together more than 130 participants from 40 countries. Representatives of some of the most important international organisms in Earth Sciences will contribute with several keynote lectures.
Ratification of the First 100 IUGS Geological Heritage Sites and 10 new Heritage Stones
In October 2022 the IUGS Executive Committee met digitally and ratified the First 100 IUGS Geological Heritage Sites as a new IUGS designation. The IUGS EC also ratified the 10 new Heritage Stone proposals.
IUGS 77th Executive Committee Meeting
On March 16th – 17th the IUGS celebrated its 77th Executive Committee meeting in an open session hosted by the Societé Géologique France in Paris. The International Commission on Geoheritage participated in the meeting for the first time.
Zumaia meeting
In November 2021 the new officers of the IUGS – International Commission on Geoheritage and the IUGS Secretary General met in Zumaia with the goal of establishing the pillar of the new commission and sub-commissions. The statutes of the IUGS – International Commission on Geoheritage were discussed and unanimously adopted. The strategic plan for 2021 – 2023 was also defined and unanimously approved.
