The IUGS Zumaia Declaration

On October 28th, the International Union of Geological Sciences, during the celebration of its 60th anniversary event with more than 200 experts from 40 countries adopted the IUGS Zumaia declaration.

The presentation of the First 100 IUGS Geological Heritage Sites during the IUGS 60th anniversary event was a great success. 140 participant form 42 different countries participated in the event. This important milestone has created enthusiasm, energy and good will to continue working for an IUGS program to give recognition to those sites of the highest scientific value. The First are only the first. Many more will be coming.

The IUGS 60th anniversary event

The IUGS 60th anniversary event will be celebrated in the Basque Coast UNESCO Global Geopark on October 25th – 28th. This great event will announce the First 100 IUGS Geological Heritage Sites and the 10 new Heritage Stones and will bring together more than 130 participants from 40 countries. Representatives of some of the most important international organisms in Earth Sciences will contribute with several keynote lectures.
