Jaisalmer Limestone

The limestone found in Jaisalmer city and the surrounding areas has been utilised for construction purposes in a multitude of monuments. Constructed from the yellow Jaisalmer limestone, the Jaisalmer Fort is regarded as one of Rajasthan’s most magnificent forts. The fort is one of the six forts in Rajasthan known as the “Hill Forts of Rajasthan,” which are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It blends Rajput and Islamic architectural styles. Within the Jaisalmer citadel are numerous other amazing monuments. These include of mansions constructed for the servants of the nobles, a collection of Jain temples, and palaces with excellent engravings. Remarkable elaborate carvings may be found on old homes (havelis) constructed in the city’s yellow Jaisalmer limestone. Due to their intricate carvings and themes, travellers flock to the Patwon ki Haveli and the Salim Singh ki Haveli. Famous for its elaborate carvings that cover the haveli’s panels, pillars, and windows, the Deewan Nathmal’s Haveli is a fusion of Rajput and Islamic style architecture.
