Taj Mahal, India
The Indian state of Rajasthan contains the town of Makrana in its Nagaur district. The town is known for producing high-quality marble, which is why it is frequently called “Makrana marble.” Makrana Marble is famous for its use in sculpture and architecture. Makrana marble was used to build the Taj Mahal, one of the most famous structures in the world, which was completed between 1632 and 1648. The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan ordered it to be built as a mausoleum for his adored wife Mumtaz Mahal. Makrana marble is used throughout the building, including the distinctive white dome and elaborate marble inlays. The Taj Mahal’s ethereal beauty and UNESCO World Heritage Site designation are partly due to the marble’s extraordinary properties.
